October 2005

Greetings from the Poeta!

This is an online-only letter as I was unable to meet the Acorn's deadline due to real life priorities (for September and October only - you'll see a poem in the published Acorn for November ... unless it was too long!). Please forgive me!

I urge anyone interested in poetry to try out the art in some way - whether in competition, or performance at a bardic circle or gathering, or as a scroll text for his or her local barony, or even as a gift for a friend! There are numerous ways in which to exercise poetic skill, and I encourage you to try out at least one, if not many of these avenues. You may be surprised to find out how many people enjoy (and are thrilled by) poetry as a way to celebrate their passions and merits - even if they don't tell you. You may find fulfillment in using your love of poetry to help promote the name of others!

One final note: I will be stepping down from the position of Poeta Atlantiae in January at the Twelfth Night celebration. More details will follow about the competition to choose my successor in the November Acorn.

Ever humble,
Olivier de Bayonne

Additional online notes: This month's featured poet is Baron Alejandro Mateo Ramirez, who has composed an excellent sonnet in the English style. Well done!
