May 2005

Greetings from the Poeta!

There are a number of exciting poetry competitions this season - be on the lookout in the Acorn and on the Poeta website (http://poeta.atlantia.sca.org) for more information! While you're online, check out the featured poets - another takes the spotlight every month, and they're all fabulous! For your reading pleasure, here's a poem based on Sir Walter Raleigh's "What is our life?"

What is our game? A marketplace of bliss,
Wherein credit is given with a kiss
For the brave ware of mighty chivalry
And eke the gentle cloth of courtesy.
Each man a vendor is, his worth to show
And sell by inspiring those who would know
How virtue to possess, and further share:
No man debtor is to give all his care.
So let us trade, and greater grow in store,
That have we all of honor even more.

In service,
Olivier de Bayonne

Additional online notes: You may have noticed that I am no longer going by a Russian name. Sorry to confuse anyone! I haven't done anything Russian in over four years, and I wanted to go by a name that reflected my interests. I'm the same guy as that Olsk fellow, though. Again, sorry to confuse anyone.

The current featured poet of the month for May is Lord Dunstan le Heryngmongere, who has gifted us with an hilarious Viking poem.

Information about this year's Known World Poetic Challenge at Pennsic will be available very shortly. Stay tuned for an update!

I am also still happily accepting submissions for pieces to include on the 'Atlantian Bardic Poetry' aspect of the site - any piece of poetry, song, or story by an Atlantian author is welcome. The works are divided up by author through geographical region.
