March 2005

 Greetings from your new Poeta!

I am honored and humbled to have been chosen for this esteemed position, and I hope to keep up with the mighty tasks of my predecessors. I will be keeping an updated list of poetic competitions and poetry-related news on the Poeta Atlantiae website (http://poeta.atlantia.sca.org). In lieu of a formal letter, I plan to publish various poems (in addition to news) here. The first offering is based on "O fortuna" from the 13th century Carmina Burana (though this is one verse instead of three) and is in honor of Her Majesty.

O Regina,
ut camena
virtuti inspiratis,
ab errore
in honore:
vires nos celebratis.
Vos numerus
et accentus
exemplari invocant.
Nos concessis
verbis laudis,
vos famuli mereant.

O Queen,
Like poetry (or: Muse thereof)
You inspire virtue,
Out of error
Into honor:
You celebrate our strengths.
Your rank (or: poetic meter)
And intonation
Invoke the ideal.
You grant us
words of praise,
That your servants might be worthy of them.

In service,
Olsk Buslavl'

Additional online notes: As you can see above, I promised to provide more information here on the website. My primary announcement for the website is that the 'Featured poet of the month' aspect of the site is again being updated - please take a look at the offering from the current Featured Poet (for February 2005), Lady Metylda the Cunning.

I am also happily accepting submissions for pieces to include on the 'Atlantian Bardic Poetry' aspect of the site - any piece of poetry, song, or story by an Atlantian author is welcome. The works are divided up by author through geographical region.

I also hope to keep an up-to-date list of poetry competitions in the kingdom here on the site (located on the 'Competitions' portion of the page). If you would like something to be listed that is not presently listed, please email me and I will be happy to add it to the list. Thank you!
